Juneteenth, which is recognized each year on June 19, commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and has been celebrated since the late 1800s.

  • This holiday is also known as “Juneteenth Independence Day”, “Freedom Day”, “Jubilee Day” or “Emancipation Day”
  • The Juneteenth flag has become a familiar symbol and includes a star for the state of Texas and the red, white and blue that represents the liberty of the American flag
  • Celebrations of Juneteenth can include religious services, speeches, educational events, family gatherings and festivals
  • Juneteenth is an important day to celebrate the Black community, while taking time to learn and reflect
  • You can recognize and celebrate by:
  • Reviewing the history of the day and why it is important
  • Attending events within your community
  • Donating to organizations that support Black communities
