Four YPAC members, two committee and two paper contest winners, recently returned from the 9th edition of the Rio Pipeline Conference and Exposition held in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil from September 24th – 26th, 2013. The country, city, and citizens played wonderful hosts to us during our stay; however, the theme for the conference on maximizing productivity and logistic efficiency will play a key role in determining the success of World Cup 2014 and the Summer Olympics in 2016. The three day conference brings together about 1000 attendees from 20 countries, including decision making executives, professionals of recognized technical and managerial level, young professionals from within the country, and students who can participate in the conference in their own specialized program.
For the two committee members, the trip was a great success with many key contacts established, that of which YPAC hopes to utilize in the next year by collaborating on best practices implemented within each country. A two hour workshop was held on the Wednesday with the Youth Committee of IBP, Institute of Brazilian Petroleum, Gas & Biofuels. A few members of the Youth Committee will be visiting Calgary in the latter half of October for the 4th WPC Youth Forum held from the 22nd through to the 25th. YPAC welcomes them during their stay and hopes that they will leave Canada with the same fond memories our members left with from Brazil.
The two paper presenters thoroughly enjoyed their experience of presenting on the international stage. Once again YPAC would like to thank all of those who applied to present papers at the conference; overall, the paper competition was a success and will likely re-surface for future conferences.
