Amanda Bai and Nancy Manchak recap this awesome event
On August 14, IRISNDT welcomed over thirty members of the YPAC Edmonton chapter to their Edmonton office for a Technical Speaker Event and Technology Showcase. Ana Benz, Chief Engineer at IRISNDT and her colleagues shared their engineering and technical experience with the audience, by providing an overview of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) used in today’s pipeline industry.
During the presentation, Ana shared case studies and lessons learnt from her project portfolio, with a focus on the integration of NDT technology in ensuring overall asset integrity. Bryan Cornforth also presented a mock-up laser scan demonstration on the technology able to be utilized with ILI validation and in-the-ditch pipeline feature detection, amongst other applications. Nathan Pasemko and Blaine Heiser presented IRISNDT’s mock-up radiography field set-up, and to conclude the evening Paul Mabbett demonstrated the functionality of rope access being combined with NDT.
Some highlighted event learnings are noted below:
• Innovation and available technology are rapidly changing NDT and inspection capabilities. IRISNDT showcased some of these innovations with the audience by exposing the audience to laser scanning, digital radiography and rope access.
• Design considerations can play a pivotal role in the root cause of failures. It is key to include multiple perspectives (eg. end users, fabricators) in design discussions
• Safety is paramount, and a consistent consideration for NDT related work
Thank you again to IRISNDT for welcoming our attendees and supporting the Young Pipeliners Association of Canada!
