Calgary Gas Turbine Tour Event Summary

On February 27, the Young Pipeliners Association of Canada (YPAC) Calgary Chapter kicked off their 2020 Event Calendar. David Rogers, Senior Rotating Equipment Engineer, from TC Energy gave a great presentation on Gas Turbines and Centrifugal Compressors. The presentation highlighted the major components and operation of this essential pipeline equipment. The audience of attendees was very attentive, enthusiastic and engaged as there were a number of great questions and learning points throughout the presentation.  

After the presentation, the event attendees were given a guided tour of the TC Energy Airdrie Service Centre by Yvon Begin, Airdrie Workshop Manager and resident Dry Gas Seal SME. The Airdrie Service Centre is utilized by TC Energy to complete inspection and maintenance on their fleet of aeroderivative gas turbines and centrifugal compressors.

During our tour we were able to see several gas turbines and centrifugal compressors undergoing inspection and maintenance from some of the major OEMs utilized by the pipeline industry. At each stop, the Airdrie Service Centre team provided the event attendees great insights on the inspection and maintenance activities completed by TC Energy to ensure the safe and reliable operation of their pipeline system. Equipment on display included the 32 MW Siemens SGT-A35 (Rolls-Royce RB211) and the 15 MW General Electric LM1600.
